Struggling with motivation or experiencing procrastination happens to the best of us! Here are some strategies to consider to help manage this tendency to put off coursework and studying:
5 Minute Plan
Sit down and work on something for just five minutes. At the end of five minutes, move onto something else if you want, or set yourself another five minutes on the original task. Chances are you’ll already be involved enough to keep going. Getting started is often the hardest step to take (Edith Cowan University Student Services Centre). Use of a Timer (Pomodoro Technique)
This is a variation of the Five Minute plan. Set a time for 25 minutes and commit to engaging fully on the task for that amount of time. When the timer rings, that gives you permission to take a break etc. You may find that by the time the timer rings you are now on a roll and are able to continue working on that project, assignment etc.!
